ROMANCHE

Kayak short film

Go to previous project arrowGo to next project arrow

The Romanche Valley, in the French Alps, is one of the birthplaces of hydro-powered industry. For decades, the river gave inexhaustible energy to local factories, before changing economical winds left this deep gorge ghostly.

This kayak short film gives an unusual perspective on the valley by following kayaker Jules DOMINE down the Romanche, through the ruins of abandoned dams.

It is a testimony to the long-lasting impact of dams on rivers, in spite of hydro-electricity’s reputation as a clean and renewable form of energy.
